April is New Homes Month and to celebrate the National Associations of Home Builders (NAHB) surveyed builders from across the country about what features they were most likely to include in a typical single family home in 2014.
They shared the results earlier this week revealing that the top priorities of a 2014 include convenience, livability, and energy efficiency.
“Newly constructed homes can suit the specific requirements of today’s home buyers,” said NAHB Chairman Kevin Kelly in the press release. “And now is a great time to consider buying a new home, as consumers can take advantage of competitive home prices and low interest rates to find the perfect new home for their families.”
Builders are including features that are practical and functional in the lives of today’s home buyers. Some of the most popular features include:
- A walk-in closet in the master bedroom
- Low-e windows
- A laundry room
- A Great Room.
- Granite countertops
- A double sink
- A central island in the kitchen
- Private toilet in the bathroom
- Linen closet
- ENERGY STAR® rated appliances
- Programmable thermostats
Additional features you might see in a new home include ceilings at least nine-feet high, a front porch, outdoor lighting, and a patio. You can find house plans with lots of these features in The House Designers’ Top Selling House Plans collection. Take a look and see if you can find your dream home for 2014.
